Which Road? Your Education Planning Brief

Every education plan has the same three parts. This tool helps you name your road, find the official place each part lives, and walk into counseling with real questions. Your work saves as you go. Only what you paste into Canvas is graded.

How this works (tap to open or close)
  1. Warm up. Three practice students, three different roads. Pick the road and the place to check for each one.
  2. Your goal. Pick your road, then name your career direction, your major or program, and the schools you're aiming at. The tool shows you the three parts of a plan on that road.
  3. Your sources. Look at three official sources and write one thing each one told you.
  4. Your questions and next step. Write three questions only a counselor can answer, and pick one thing you'll actually do next with your brief. No appointment needed.
  5. Build. Press Build, read it once, press Copy, paste into the box under this tool in Canvas, press Submit.

This tool never lists courses for you, on purpose. Course lists change every year, and a counselor builds your official Education Plan with you in SmartPlan whenever you meet. Your job is to know your road and your questions.

    Stage 1

Warm up: three students, three roads

These students are made up, but their questions are real. For each one, pick the road that fits and the place they should check first. Wrong answers just tell you something. Change your pick any time.

    Stage 2

    Your goal

Pick the road you're leaning toward right now. Not sure is a real answer, and lots of students start there. You can change roads later, and plenty of people do.

    1. Which road are you leaning toward?

    2. Your direction and your major

    3. Where you're aiming

Name at least one school. Add up to three.

    4. How long would you like this road to take?
    Stage 3

    Check three official sources

Websites change and friends guess. Official sources are where the real rules live. Open three of them, look around for a few minutes, and write down one thing each one told you about your road.

    Stage 4

Your questions and your next step

A counselor builds your official Education Plan with you in SmartPlan whenever you meet, this term or after you finish high school. You bring the goal and the questions. Questions that start from what you already checked get you much further than "What should I take?"

    1. Three questions only a counselor can answer

    2. Your next step

You don't need an appointment for this assignment. Pick one real thing you'll do with this brief, plus roughly when. Whenever your schedule lets you meet with a counselor, at your high school or at Norco Counseling (opens in a new tab), bring this brief along.

What will you do next with this brief?
    Stage 5

Build it, copy it, turn it in

Do this, in order: 1. Build my brief. 2. Copy. 3. Paste into the box under this tool in Canvas. 4. Press Submit, then check Grades for a dash.

    What the brief still needs

    Need a clean slate?

Moving my work another way (a code instead of a file)

To save a code, press Export my work and copy the whole code. To bring it back, paste it here and press Restore. Restore only replaces the sections you choose.

Before you close this page, download a progress file or copy your export code.
